KPV is a tripeptide (lysine-proline-valine) corresponding to the C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH 11-13). It retains the anti-inflammatory signaling activity of the parent hormone without melanocortin-receptor-mediated pigmentation effects, and is used in cell-culture and animal models to study NF-κB pathway inhibition, pro-inflammatory cytokine suppression, and epithelial barrier signaling in intestinal and dermal tissue models.
