BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide (15 amino acids) whose sequence corresponds to a fragment of a gastric-juice protein, first characterized in the early 1990s. In cell-culture and animal models it is studied for its effects on angiogenic signaling, including VEGFR2 expression and nitric-oxide pathways, and on fibroblast migration and collagen organization in tendon and ligament tissue explants. Additional preclinical work examines its interaction with the gastrointestinal epithelium, its modulation of NSAID-induced mucosal injury models, and its influence on dopaminergic signaling.
