MOTS-c
MOTS-c (Mitochondrial ORF of the 12S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid mitochondrial-derived peptide encoded within mitochondrial DNA, discovered in 2015. Unusually for a peptide, it acts as a retrograde signal from the mitochondria to the nucleus, regulating metabolic homeostasis and cellular stress responses.
